Permanent hair reduction is now a reasonably commonly offered treatment across beauty clinics in New Zealand. The most common method used is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). However, not all treatments are created equal.
IPL works on dark hairs and creates a long-term retardation of the hair’s growth cycle. Energy from a high-powered Xenon lamp is absorbed by the melanin in hairs under the skin. It is important to note that only hair in the earliest stage of a three-stage growth cycle will be successfully treated. At this stage of growth, hair is connected to the body’s blood supply and is relatively melanin rich.
